Emcomp’s hydraulic-magnetic circuit breakers provide safe and reliable protection against overload and short-circuit. The hydraulic-magnetic design enable compact circuit breakers that withstand harsh environments. Ideal for a wide range of applications.
Y-series in the 300VDC (and above) version has a permanent magnet to help extinguish the arc which is created inside the circuit breaker when switching a DC voltage. In cases where the application calls for a product which is not polarity sensitive there is a range (YB) without the magnets. Then it operates with 150 VDC in one module and 300VDC with 2 modules in series.
High DC voltages, like 300-600VDC, is more and more common in power distributions as a way to reduce the amount of copper in cables and busbar systems. Up to now there has been a challenge to find a MCB that in a safe way can handle such high DC voltages. Now the solution to this is the new development from CBI, the Y-series. It is a revolutionary product that is build on the same proven Hydraulic-Magnetic principle like the rest of the CBI products. Meaning that no de-rating is needed due to the ambient temperature. Y-series can handle 300VDC in one 13 mm module and for applications that require 400 or 600 VDC they can be delivered serial connected from factory and is the 2×13 mm wide. If you need to break both plus and minus in your application, the Y-frame can be delivered as a real electrical 2 pole circuit breaker. In that case up to 300 VDC is 2x13mm wide and 301-600 VDC is 2×13 +2x13mm. I.e. total width 52 mm (4×13).

Just as the rest of the rail mounted MCBs, Y series can be delivered in both grey version with 45 mm front escutcheon and black version with 57 mm front escutcheon.
Y-series can be delivered with factory fitted auxilliary contact.
Y series has different approval profiles depending on what the application area is:
YA = Tele/Datacom
YB = Alternative energy/Energy storage (unpolarized product)
Always keep rated current regardless of temperature
The main advantage of HY-MAG circuit breakers over traditional thermal-magnetic MCBs is their insensitivity to ambient temperature variations. HY-MAG breakers maintain their rated current capacity from -40°C to +85°C, while thermal-magnetic MCBs only perform reliably at room temperature.
At around 30°C, thermal-magnetic MCBs can only handle about 75% of their rated current, requiring de-rating. This de-rating often leads to the need for higher-rated (and more expensive) MCBs, as well as increased costs for cables and busbar systems, along with reduced accuracy in applications.
Advantages of HY-MAG Circuit Breakers
Immediate reset after tripping Unlike thermal magnetic MCBs, HY-MAG breakers can be immediately reset after an overload.
Dedicated products for AC and DC HY-MAG breakers are specifically designed for either AC or DC applications to handle differences in breaking currents and prevent arc extinguishing issues.
Energy efficiency HY-MAG breakers have about 45% lower internal resistance than thermal magnetic MCBs, reducing energy loss and costs.
No aging of the sensing device HY-MAG’s sensing mechanism is hermetically sealed, avoiding exposure to air, humidity, and pollution, ensuring long-term reliability.
Worldwide approvals HY-MAG products meet high certification requirements according to both European (IEC 60947-2) and American standards (UL489/UL489A or UL1077).
